Short Hair, Don't Care

Thursday, December 19, 2013

Hello friends.  I did something crazy.  Really, REALLY crazy.  I got a haircut.  Insane, I know.  I haven't (ever?) discussed my hair on the blog.  But here it is, making it's big debut, a week after I got it cut.  A long week of debating whether I like the shorter new 'do.  I have had long(ish) hair almost my entire life.  But lately, it's long-ness has been looking more like dead-ness.  The ends were atrocious.   A normal person would think, "Hey, maybe I'll just get a trim." But I'm a little more extreme & spontaneous.  And after seeing Gigi on Bravo's Shah's of Sunset (I hope I'm not the only one who watches this show) and Chrissy Teigen (my idol) get their long locks cut, I thought, "HEY! I CAN DO IT TOO!!!" #sorrycapslock.

Chrissy & Gigi

So anyways, after not much consideration, I scheduled a haircut (side note: I couldn't get an appointment at my normal place until after Christmas-I ain't got time for that, so after a quick Yelp search I settled on a new place that could get me an appointment the next day).
I get to the salon, and my hairstylist asked if I would like anything to drink, which I was about to automatically say no to--- until she said moscato...ummm heck YES! Like I said, I was going for a drastically shorter look (cue the anxiety attack) so any bit of help easing my nerves, I needed!  She colored my hair, I sat under the dryer, then she washed my hair and gave me an amazing head massage. After that and 2 glasses of moscato, I remember thinking for a split millisecond, "I don't even care how my hair turns out!" But as soon as she got her scissors out, I was sober Sally again.  The rest was a blur until all was said & done and I looked at myself with short hair, breathed a sigh of relief and thought, "This isn't so bad."  I should also mention, I usually only get my hair cut once a year, so this was all very dramatic for me. Now I bestow upon you the best before and after pics I could come up with...

I still see pictures of myself with long hair, want to burst into tears and think, I'm never cutting my hair again. But I have to say, this short hair is kinda growing on me (pun intended).

Happy Thirsty Thursday!

Favorite Things: Christmas Edition

Tuesday, December 17, 2013

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles plus warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

I'm singing right now.  Can you tell?  You're actually lucky you can't hear me.  I'm an awful singer.  I often daydream about what my life would be like if I could hold a tune to save my life.  But I digress, this post is all about my favorite Christmastime things.  Singing Christmas carols is obvs not one of them.

Holiday Themed Classroom Activities.  You know I love a theme & this applies to my classroom, as well.  I love decking out my classroom in season/holiday decor.  This was a new project for us this year, "Gingerbread Men Around the World."  Each student had to choose a country and create an appropriately themed gingerbread person.  Not to be biased.  But I absolutely am in love with the Italian  man in the top left corner.

Air Wick Homemade Holiday Vanilla Butter Cream Cupcake.  I discovered this scent literally two days ago and I. AM. OBSESSED. Since it's so new I sometimes forget about it, walk into my kitchen (or bathroom) & think who is baking cupcakes?! It's that good.

This view.  When lounging on the couch, watching TV, blogging, eating dinner, etc, etc, etc. Why can't we have Christmas trees all year round???

Festive Drinks.  I have two favorite holiday drinks.  Exhibit A: Brandy & eggnog.  and Exhibit B: Mulled wine.  We've been using a gluhwein mix from a local winery to make mulled wine but it's just about out & I've been seeing some great recipes out and about on some blogs that I can't wait to try!

Giving Christmas gifts! I love when I finally (FINALLY!!!) come up with perfect Christmas gift for everyone on my list.  Lots of my gifts will be semi-homemade this year & I would totes share now but I'm a little scurred some people who said gifts will be for read my blog. Sooooooooo.  Maybe I'll share them after Christmas?!  Because they would also be perfect for birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day...next Christmas?

My favorite Christmas movie. I love this movie so much! When it plays 24 hours straight Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, it will be on at my family's house that entire time and no one will get tired of it. Oh my god. I just thought of all the lines I wanted to quote from this movie right here & now and realized it was just about the entire movie, so I'll leave you with this Ooooooooooh fuuuuuuuuuuuuuudge.

Farewell, Twenty-Four!

Saturday, December 7, 2013

Tomorrow I am turning 25 and it seems like just yesterday I was
HERE
celebrating my 24th birthday wine tasting with the fam bam & friends.
So I thought I'd share some of the highlights my 24 year old self had before I bid this year adieu.

Erik & I went on a couple staycations. One in the wintertime and another in the summer.

Never underestimate the power of a good staycation.

Speaking of my manfriend, it boggles my mind that I met him when I was 20. TWENTY.
After meeting Erik (not immediately after) I asked him to buy me beer.  Him: "Why, you have no money?" Me: "No, because I'm 20 & a half!" True story.

My mom & I bought new Toyotas.
Don't let my happy face fool you.  Buying a car was one of the most stressful, traumatic things I have ever experienced.

I took my students on a field trip to the zoo & pretended I was a turtle.  Because I'm also 5 years old, really.

I discovered pho & boba. And wondered how I ever lived without them.

I pub golfed for the first time.  And rode a bike for the first time in 289329039482 years.  And whoever said, "It's just like riding a bike" or whatever that stupid saying is never rode the bike I was on!!!

My BFFs came to Tucson, so of course we went wine tasting.

Erik graduated! (And oh my god, was he not the cutest kid ever?!)

I drank a bloody mary drank with a burger on top of it.

Erik & I moved into our new, fabulous apartment!

I made pickles.

We painted pictures.

I (successfully) carved a pumpkin.

We went to the Price is Right.

I purchased my second UofA shirt. Ugh.

24 was quite an awesome year and I can't wait to see what 25 brings! Tonight I will be throwing my 80's theme birthday bash. So in honor of that, here is a throwback to me 20 years ago on my 5th birthday.

xoxo
