Weekend Recap

Sunday, March 30, 2014

You know it's gonna be a great weekend when it starts with a Chikfila oreo milkshake! This weekend, Erik & I headed up to Scottsdale to visit some friends and family and on our way there, I had the absolutely brilliant idea to stop at Chikfila.  (Bonus genius points--it was Friday! I seem to only have Chikfila cravings on Sundays when, of course, they're closed. Does this happen to anyone else?!)

So we got into town Friday night, met up with some friends for sushi and ended the night playing Pictionary.

On Saturday, Erik and his brother played golf and I got to see my college bestie, Kate, who was in town from San Diego.  She was staying at a resort in the area and it was a gorgeous day, so we decided to spend the afternoon laying by the pool.

and no pool day is complete without a quesadilla & guac

I had seen my BFF, Sarah the night before and when I saw Kate Saturday afternoon, I officially asked both of them to be in bridal party.

Sarah, Kate, and the rest of the girls (including myself!) absolutely loved the adorable labels I found on Etsy at the ClassicWeddingDesign shop.

Saturday night, we BBQ'd at my parents house and watched UofA lose against Wisconsin (womp womp).  We had Kobe with us at my parents, Erik's brother and girlfriend brought their dog, and my sister brought her new puppy to join in the festivities, too.

There's a reason Kobe isn't in these photos.  One dog, he can handle, more than that, he gets real awkward.  He's the dog you can find at the dog park sniffing the patch of grass as far away from the other dogs as he can get. Poor Kobs.

And since we started this mini roadtrip with some delicious food, why not end it the same way?! On our way back to Tucson, we stopped at our favorite drive-thru breakfast place and I picked up this bad boy: eggs, tomato, bacon & pesto on a warm croissant.

This weekend was fabulous, so I have a hard time saying this was the highlight but I'm pretty excited about the newest addition to our home.  My aunt & uncle purchased this for us as an engagement gift.  And what home is truly complete without a bar car?!

Hope you had the best weekend ever, bring it on Monday!

Spring Things

Tuesday, March 25, 2014

Spring, I love you so much, let me count the ways...

Jellybeans. Sure, you can eat jellybeans anytime of the year, I suppose; but they're so much better in the spring! From their bright colors to fruity flavors--could there be a better snack to welcome the new season?!

Spring Break! aka the week to work on my summer tan. aka it's almost summer. aka the most wonderful time of the year.

PS. There are a couple things to note about this photo. 1) My bangs. Yes. At one point in my life (after growing out my bangs in kindergarten) I thought it was a grand ol' idea to cut them again! HA!!!! I started growing them out the day I got them cut. 2) The date of this photo. It's 5/27/2010. That's not spring break.  But after a few fruity rum & sprites, Sarah spent an entire afternoon thinking it was "spriiiiiing breeeeeeeak!"

It's almost summer!!!! Spring is summer's opening act and what a great one it is.  Because the anticipation is half the fun...... or something like that.

Counting down the days til I'm frolicking on the beach again!

Smoothie Smoothie Smoothie Smoothie Rockin' Everywhere

Sunday, March 23, 2014

A few weekends ago, Erik bought us me a blender.  Literally, I cannot believe I've lived years (basically since I lived with my parents in high school) without a blender in my life.  But now, I can't remember a time without it.  I spend my free time scouring Pinterest for new & delicious smoothie recipes and think back to my days working at Jamba Juice trying to come up with the best concoctions.

So on this sunny Spring Sunday, I bring you my two most recent faves...

Berry Banana Peanut Butter
1/2 cup almond milk
1/4 cup oatmeal
I always add these two ingredients first and let them sit for a few minutes, so the oatmeal can absorb some of the milk
1/3 cup frozen blueberries
1/3 cup frozen strawberries
1/2 frozen banana
1 tbsp peanut butter

Oatmeal Cookie Smoothie
1/2 cup almond milk
1/4 cup oatmeal
I always add these two ingredients first and let them sit for a few minutes, so the oatmeal can absorb some of the milk
1 frozen banana, sliced
1 tbsp honey
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, ground ginger & salt

Happy smoothie Sunday!! I'm off to try to get a tan on this gorgeous day!

How Was Your Day?

Thursday, March 13, 2014

Today when I got home from work, I thought to myself, "It was a good day." And then I got to thinking... what exactly made today such a good day? Sure, there were some things throughout the day that made me smile and laugh and I did get a pretty massive ego boost, but nothing out of the ordinary. Then I really started thinking: What's the difference between a bad day and a good day? Of course, the day I got engaged was a good day and the day I found out a relative died was a bad day; but when it's just a "normal" day what makes the day good or bad?! The differences really seem minimal. So minimal all my deep thinking couldn't come up with an answer, except! for my own perception of the day. I let myself smile and laugh at silly annoying things my students did, I accepted a compliment, and I enjoyed the presence of the people around me.  I also listened to Pharrell's Happy 3 times, which never hurts the good day meter.
So basically, this "theory" I have means every day can be a good day. Easier said than done, I'm sure, but hey it's worth a shot!

And because it's Thursday, and I cannot resist  a Throwback Thursday, #tbt to that one time (exactly a month ago!!) Erik & I were in Vegas and took selfies and got engaged.

the best day
