Humpday Bumpday: 28 Weeks

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Maybe I should change the name of this blog to Humpday Bumpday because that's all that seems to be happening here lately. Our first day of school is tomorrow, so hopefully that will change after I get into more of a routine with work and such. Or we can just stick with the Humpday Bumpday theme, I'm not opposed.

How far along: 28 weeks
Gender: GIRL! (And she officially has a name. Or she has a set of blocks with a random name on them.)
Weight gain: 20 lbs.
Maternity clothes: Oh yes. This bump doesn't fit into much else.
Stretch marks: Nope.
Belly button in or out: In and looking so weird.
Sleep: I have to get up and pee every night around 3am and it takes me at least an hour to fall back asleep, because the middle of the night is the best time to think of the 2092039201 things I need to do.
Best moment this week: We went to happy hour tonight with some friends, and even if I can't drink, you can't beat a happy hour on a Wednesday night.
Miss anything: Ordering a drink at happy hour.
Happy or Moody: Happy!
Movement: Lots of it! I think I've even felt baby hiccups a few times.
Cravings: Still not craving much this week. Being hungry and nothing sounding good to eat is quite depressing.
Queasy or sick: My nausea seems to have come back the past few nights. What the heck?!
Symptoms: Like I said, my nausea seems to be back and my skin is really dry. Again. What the heck?!
Looking forward to: The weekend!! It's babymoon time!

Humpday Bumpday: 27 Weeks

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

How far along: 27 weeks
Gender: GIRL!
Weight gain: 20 lbs.
Maternity clothes: I'm obsessed with the Liz Lange maternity dress I'm wearing in this week's pic. It is so comfy and fits perfectly.
Stretch marks: Nope.
Belly button in or out: Still in. Wondering if it'll ever pop or maintain it's pancake status.
Sleep: Not too shabby. Now that I'm back at work, I'm so exhausted by bedtime I fall right asleep and pretty much stay that way until my alarm goes off at 5:50AM. Wahhhhh.
Best moment this week: Is also my worst moment this week... going back to work. Although I love my job and the people I work with, who doesn't want to be on eternal summer break?!
Miss anything: I know I just gushed about my maternity dress, but I really miss my old clothes.
Happy or Moody: Happy! With the occasional mood swing.
Movement: The baby decided all day yesterday my bladder was a great place to hang out, so I spent 90% of the day in the bathroom.
Cravings: I'm having the opposite of cravings. Nothing sounds good to eat, except quesadillas. Those always sound good.
Queasy or sick: Feeling good!
Symptoms: Still with the heartburn... send Tums and milk.
Looking forward to: Meeting my new group of kinders next week!

5 | FACTS

Friday, July 18, 2014

Hi hey hello. I'm back to party with Oh Hey, Friday! This is also my last day of summer break, and Erik was sure to remind me of that before he left for work this morning.

Today I am here to present you with 5 Facts. Mostly facts about me.
Here we go!

1 | I am the world's messiest eater. If our child turns out to be half as messy as me, she will still be the messiest baby on the block. I just don't know how it happens. It's not like I'm sort of animal. I have table manners (I think?). But if we're out to dinner, you can bet you'll be able to guess where I sat. It's the spot that now has food splattered across the tablecloth. I get food in my hair, on my forearms, elbows, it's embarrassing and I don't know how to fix it; so I accept it.

2 | I am terrified of crawling critters. Lizards, rodents, spiders, etc. I hate them. Recently there was both a spider and a lizard in our house and I about died. Actually I just cried uncontrollably, but I blame that on the hormones. I'm someone who likes to face my fears. I've also been afraid of heights and horses nearly my entire life, but I've gone parasailing, zip-lining and horseback riding to face these fears head on. I just don't see myself being able to face the fear of an animal that can crawl all over me and attack me.

Parasailing scared face.

Zip-lining scared face.

Horseback riding scared face.

3 | I'm a little obsessed with brushing my teeth. I cannot stand the taste of food in my mouth after I eat and I eat a lot; therefore, I can't tell you how many times I brush my teeth/use mouthwash/chew gum a day. But hey, at least if you ever run into me on the street you'll know I'll have minty fresh breath? ;) Brush Ups were made for me and it's a damn shame they never caught on.

4 | If I could go back in time and relive any part of my life... It would be when I first met Erik in San Diego. While I enjoyed that time in the moment, I look back on it now with such fondness (cue the sappy love music). We shared french fries, drank champagne on the bay, danced in the grocery store, he attacked me with seaweed, bought me Bud Light Limes whenever I asked, I made him a necklace out of a seashell and kite string--he wore it the entire weekend; it was pure romance! And really a sign of what was to come... the most fun, loving (and fun-loving) relationship I've ever known.

5 | THIS is the best commercial ever. I saw it the other day at the beginning of another YouTube video I was attempting to watch. Normally I skip these things as fast as I can, but this one caught my attention and I watched the entire 60 seconds of it and you probably should too. Because as Beyonce once said, "Girls run the world."

Happy Friday!!

Humpday Bumpday: 26 Weeks

Wednesday, July 16, 2014

How far along: 26 weeks
Gender: GIRL!
Weight gain: 20 lbs... is this where I stop posting my weight gain?!
Maternity clothes: I'm actually wearing ALL maternity clothes in this week's photo! My mom bought me these Liz Lange maternity shorts and I love them. They are sooo comfortable!! My top is from PinkBlush Maternity and has a cute bow cutout in the back.
Stretch marks: None, still keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way!
Belly button in or out: Still hangin' in there.
Sleep: I started using my Snoogle again, and it's really been helping me stay comfortable and sleep through the night.
Best moment this week: I love love love when Erik talks to the baby. Last night he was asking her what she wanted her name to be. He was hoping she'd respond by kicking (and she had JUST been kicking like crazy) but no such luck in having our unborn child pick out her own name.
Miss anything: Last week I said I try not say wine every week. But I still miss wine.
Happy or Moody: Happy! Although I think that EVERYTHING ANNOYS ME stage of pregnancy I experienced during the first trimester is about to make a swift comeback.
Movement: I've been getting some kicks in the ribs and bladder lately... whoooooa there, baby!
Cravings: Cheerios, egg salad sandwiches, banana bread, milk.
Queasy or sick: Feeling good!
Symptoms: Heartburn. Which is no fun at all. Especially when it's brought on by peanut butter... one of my biggest cravings this entire pregnancy.
Looking forward to: Now that we've had our Baby Shower, I can't wait to start really putting her nursery together!

Baby Shower Shenanigans

Tuesday, July 15, 2014

This Saturday my mom hosted a beautiful baby shower at her house for Baby Anderson & me. It was filled with family, friends, great food, and fun. Our future bambino is definitely already loved so much and I think she knows it. I woke up Saturday morning to her having a dance fest in my belly... she was ready to party!

My BFFs Ali & Sarah

My mom & sister

3 1/2 generations

We played "Guess Who Brought the Onesie" which proved to be a lot harder than I expected. Either I'm not a very good guesser or everyone is way too creative. Or a combination of the two.

Baby A now has 100x more clothes than Erik and I combined, I swear.
And is 100x more stylish.

Sarah's younger sister is an amazing baker, and made these gorgeous (and equally delicious!) cupcakes for the shower.

Then everyone had to sculpt a baby out of bubble gum. And contrary to how I imagined this going down, the gum was not supposed to be chewed prior to sculpting.

Here I am with the winner...

...and some close seconds.

After the shower was all said and done, and the boys got back from golfing, we ended the day with some BBQ & board games.

It was such a great day, thank you again to everyone who made it so special for us!
xoxo

5 | Things I Kinda Sorta Didn't Know About Being Pregnant

Friday, July 11, 2014

I heard about a new, awesome link-up with September Farm yesterday and I thought why not join the party?! So today I bring you 5 things I kinda sorta didn't know about being pregnant. Now it's not like I had no idea any of this would happen, just maybe not with the vengeance it did. Without further adieu, numero uno..

1 | You'll get two new girlfriends.  They are large and in charge. They've got a mind of their own. They're boobs. I refer to mine as two huge, floppy pancakes but Erik decided "flapjacks" was a better word for them. So I have flapjacks for boobs. Oh please please please go back to your normal size one day.

2 | Mood swings? More like mood ATTACKS. PMS has nothing on pregnancy. And if PMS is any precursor for the mood attacks you'll experience when pregnant, I should have known this was coming.   I cried (hysterically) for 30 minutes the other night because Erik said he saw a lizard in our house. I then texted him the next day while he was at work thanking him for putting up with my insane pregnant self.

3 | Naming a baby is hard. SO. HARD. I actually did an entire post on this, but had to mention it again. What seems like my whole life I've been thinking of baby names I liked but when it comes to the name YOUR kid will have for their ENTIRE life, it really adds some pressure. Baby Anderson miiiiiiight have a name, unless we change our minds yet again. But I plan to stick with the one we've got. Unless we think of a better one.

4 | There's a tiny human growing inside you. Like I said, these aren't things I had NO idea would happen. Obviously I know I'm pregnant. How people wind up on the show I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant and give birth in a toilet I'll never know. But some nights I wake up in the middle of the night and think, "I can't believe there's a baby in me!" It's like I just can't wrap my mind around it. It's cray.

5 | Pregnancy brain is real. So real I almost forgot to add this to the list (I'm not kidding). I forget to text people back, leave my purse in restaurants, my cell phone in shopping carts-the list is endless! I told my coworker this must mean my kid is gonna come out really smart based on how many brain cells  she's stealing from me; she informed me there was no correlation. A girl can dream.

And because this is a pregnancy post & such
here's a picture of me at 14 weeks and (now) at 25 weeks.

Happy Friday!!

All Hail The Kale

Thursday, July 10, 2014

I was going to title this post "Kale Salad" but that was way too boring, and although we're eventually getting to the same point, always rhyme and/or use a pun whenever you can. This recipe comes from my BFF Sarah who you might have seen around ze blog before. She doesn't (but should) have her own blog because "she's not cool enough" (her words, not mine) which is basically her telling me I'm way cooler than she is. I mean, that's what I got out of that anyway. When we grow up, we plan to become the next Hoda and Kathie Lee, but until then I shall just share a kale salad recipe she shared with me that was too good not to share with you.

What Ya Need

1 bunch o' kale
Coconut oil
4 slices of turkey bacon (or regular bacon if you like to party)
An orange
Dried cranberries
Sliced almonds
Lemon juice

What Ya Need To Do

Wash and chop kale, removing most of the stems. Sarah specifically told me she likes to cut the kale into 2 inch pieces, so I feel like that's important to point out, for more reasons than one.

In a medium pan, heat up a tablespoon(ish) of coconut oil over medium heat and add kale. Start cooking the bacon in another pan at this time, as well. Sauté the kale until it becomes wilty. (What a terrible word to use in a recipe, but I can't think of a better way to describe it). Desired wilty-ness should take place in about 8 minutes. (Actually I don't know, I've never really timed it).

While you're waiting for your kale and bacon to cook, peel the orange and cut it into bite-sized slices.

When the kale and bacon are done cooking, chop the bacon. Toss kale, bacon, orange slices, dried cranberries, almonds and lemon juice together in a large bowl.

And there you have it, the kale salad.

Pregnancy Ramblings + A Bumpdate

Wednesday, July 9, 2014

Can I just first proclaim how delicious Kraft macaroni & cheese is?! Not to toot my own horn (toot toot) but I make a mean baked mac & cheese, using fancy cheeses like gruyere but nothing can compare to what comes out of that blue box.
Moving right along, I recently purchased some Bellybuds so baby girl can jam out. Or not jam out. Erik insists she only listen to classical music.
I was playing some tunes for her the other day and did not feel her move much at all (maybe all that classical music put her to sleep), so I decided our jam sesh was over. But before I took the headphones off, I showed Erik a video I had come across on my laptop of him flying a toy helicopter and Kobe chasing it; there wasn't much sound in the video until the end when I yell, "Oh my gosh, you suck!" At that moment, baby girl did the hugest kick. Maybe she recognizes my voice?! Or perhaps it was just a coincidence. Either way, pretty cool.
Speaking of my belly and budding (see what I did there?), a stranger asked me for the first time this weekend when I was due. It really caught me off guard. as my first thought was, "How did you know I was pregnant?????" I guess I'm in a bit of denial that my food baby has officially turned into a soccer ball of a baby bump. When I told her October, I was even more thrown off when her next comment was, "Oh a winter baby!" Is it just me or is October in the fall, not winter?! Please advise.
Erik & I were sitting on the couch the other night, when he also noticed my belly has been growing at an exponential rate. He commented about how large and in charge it was lookin' then said, "It could happen any day now!" "It" being the birth of our child. No. No. NOOOOOO. It cannot happen ANY day now!!! Geeez Louise. I feel like I've been pregnant forever and a day, but I'm not ready to have this baby yet and she sure isn't done baking in there. My eyes are still rolling.
Alright, I think this has gone on for far long enough, onto the bumpdate!

How far along: 25 weeks
Gender: GIRL!
Weight gain: 18 lbs +
Maternity clothes: Thought about becoming a maternity clothes designer after I pop this baby out. I'll sell cute clothes at even cuter prices.
Stretch marks: Nope
Belly button in or out: It's still in and I swear if it wasn't such a black hole to begin with, it would be out by now.
Sleep: I slept so great last night! But then I got up and turned my head to the left and realized I also slept on my neck in some funky way.
Best moment this week: So many great things this week! Besides 4th of July weekend being an absolute blast, Erik built us a garden in the backyard!! We also received our stroller and carseat (a gift from his mom), AND I found out my insurance will cover 100% of the cost of a breast pump!!
Miss anything: Wine. I try not to say that every single week, but I feel like it's been awhile, so wine I miss you dearly!
Happy or Moody: Happy! Erik frequently comments that I'm much nicer pregnant, which is definitely a back-handed compliment, because I'm always nice. I once asked Erik who the nicest person he knew was (thinking he would say me) and he named one of his friends. Admittedly, this guy is probably waaay nicer than me, but it's the principle!!!
Movement: She's movin' and groovin' in there. Erik felt some of her rolls for the first time the other night. I think he was quite shocked (impressed?) at his daughter's skillz.
Cravings: Cheerios. What an underrated cereal!
Queasy or sick: Feeling good!
Symptoms: Like I said, I'm feeling good! And if it weren't for my growing belly and baby summersaults, I might forget I'm even pregnant. HA! That's doubtful, but you get my point. I do have my glucose test on Friday, wish me luck!
Looking forward to: My baby shower on Saturday!!!

A 4th of July Recap

Monday, July 7, 2014

I love the 4th of July. Everyone dressing in red, white, & blue, the fireworks (more holidays should include fireworks), spending the day outside, the BBQ & beers-it's the best holiday! Although there were no beers for me this year, I did light off fireworks for the first time. Which is actually quite surprising it took me this long, considering my mom informed me this weekend I first held a sparkler when I was 3 years-old!

We headed up to Phoenix Thursday after Erik got off work, with all our red, white, & blue clothes in tow. The real festiveness began Friday morning with breakfast.

I was quite proud of myself for not burning a single pancake this year, much improved from last year.

Later that afternoon, we headed out for some pool time and BBQ. (Not one pool or BBQ photo exists. None. Nada. Fail.)

However! I do have some festive photos of Erik & I ready to watch fireworks.

The baby totally woke up during the fireworks... she wants in on the party too!

Erik's good friend works at a golf course, so he was able to get us all wristbands, and we had an amazing view of the show, which was set off right over a lake. Now, I won't bore you with the 35 awful pictures I took of the fireworks, but here's one, because America.

Ooooooooooh, aaaaaaaaaaaah.

We ended the night setting off some of our own fireworks, a little Taco Bell, and Orange is the New Black. So perfection, really.

Saturday morning Erik not only cooked us breakfast, but serenaded us with some Elton John jams. Winning! After breakfast I headed out to Target and TJ Maxx to see if I could find any deals & steals on 4th of July baby clothes. And I did. Double winning!

And then I did something real cray. I baked a pie. I love love love cooking, but have managed throughout my life to royally screw up anything and everything I've ever tried to bake. But lately, I've been trying to turn over a new leaf, if you will, and embrace baking. I mean it's so fun and tasty! I want in on the fun!! And kudos to me for not messing this one up!

After dinner and pie, we set off the rest of our fireworks and sparklers in the backyard.

Hope everyone had the most wonderful 4th! xoxo

Humpday Bumpday: 24 Weeks

Wednesday, July 2, 2014

True Life: I should probably wear my glasses everyday, but I hate them and can't put in contacts to save my life, but I digress.

How far along: 24 weeks
Gender: GIRL!
Weight gain: 18 lbs.
Maternity clothes: Still trying to fit into as many of my regular clothes as possible.
Stretch marks: Nope
Belly button in or out: In & lookin' kinda strange
Sleep: Sleep is so hit or miss. Some nights I fall asleep right away, but then wake up in the middle of the night and am awake for hours. Last night it took me forever to find a comfy position, but I slept all through the night.
Best moment this week: Starting to decorate the nursery. We put up gold dot decals from AllFourWalls and I am uhhhbessed!! Not only were they super easy to apply, but they look fantastic! Pictures coming soon!
Miss anything: Sleeping like my pre-pregnant self.
Happy or Moody: Happy! Even though I've cried 3 times since Sunday.
Movement: She has definitely gotten more active within the last week and I love it!
Cravings: FROZEN MANGOS! I may or may not have eaten a 5 lb. bag in less than a week.
Queasy or sick: Feeling good! Some smells (like a sushi restaurant) still make me queasy.
Symptoms:  I've experienced tailbone pain most of my pregnancy but now it is on another level. If anyone has any suggestions on how to alleviate this, LET ME KNOW!! please & thank you.
Looking forward to: 4th of July shenanigans this weekend!

Sunshine, mangos, and babybump.
